A professional director with over 100 NYC production credits I began Private Coaching in 1978 when the entire casting process for TV and Motion Pictures was being video-taped.
I created an original "cold-reading technique" which includes fast "script analysis" for the auditioning actor. The actor that gets the job isn't always the best actor but is the best "reader." You must "read well" to get the the work today.
I teach actors how to "read" to get that work. All my coaching is on-camera and my clients get copies of their work to study at home. I coach for Auditions as well as Pre-Shoot Coaching and on the set when needed by my clients.
I created a showcase performance workshop for actors called the "READER'S THEATRE WORKSHOP" that performs readings at the National Arts Club located in the historic Tilden mansion at Gramercy Park in Manhattan. The Reader's Theatre Workshop was created to showcase the actors ability to "cold-read." Closed to the general public but opened to agents and casting directors numerous actors have been discovered and signed by agents and cast in major Motion Pictures and Televsion since 1990. To learn more about the National Arts Club visit their website.
I am honored to be a lifetime member and current Board of Governor of the National Arts Club and the only acting coach ever inducted into membership. I am also the Founder and Artistic Director of the non-profit AMERICAN READERS THEATRE COMPANY with the mission statement to promote literacy through the Art of Dramatic Readings.
The Reader's Theatre Workshop is a ten session course with the final session performed before an audience of invited guests at the National Arts Club. Guests include NAC members, casting directors and agents. The Reader's Theatre Workshop, each season, has a "Playwright in Residence" via private grants and have worked with EDWARD ALBEE and CHRISTOPHER DURANG. Actors must complete a series of Private Sessions to be accepted into the workshop.
I have also designed an original acting program for the Joffery Ballet School called "ACTING FOR THE DANCER" that I am currently teaching at Joffery.
To become a member of the FILM ACTING STUDIO an interview is required and can be arranged by calling my Studio at 917-902-4174 during business hours.
Actors work in a set of Five one hour sessions meeting a minimum of once a week. All sessions by appointment. Tuition fees and all other requirements and questions are answered at interview. My "cold-reading" technique is original and developed from years of coaching actors on-camera. All sessions are taped and actors receive copies of their work.
Career consultation is a very important part of my work with actors, being their coach. Helping the actor to understand the "business" in show business. Advice is given on headshots and resumes. As a Private Coach I do make myself available to my clients. In an actor's on-camera training I work with monologues helping the actor find the perfect "on-camera" or what I call "office ready" monologue.
Emotional Work and learning to bring "emotions quickly" to the scene or reading is also explored in coaching sessions. "Breaking down the script," "building a character," and learning to make "strong and clear choices" with the copy is stressed. As a advocate of "literacy" I teach how to become a "great actor" by teaching how to become a "great reader." The casting process today is a "reading" process and actors must know how to "cold-read."
My Motto: IT IS CALLED "COLD-READING" NOT "COLD-MEMORY".
