Sue Anne Gershenzon is a classically-trained voice teacher with over 20 years of professional experience in Musical Theatre and Opera. She offers classical structural work on the elements of the voice combined with a holistic approach to the singer. Vocal blockages are addressed on all levels specific to each individual, facilitating a free and open sound. Technical purification, breathing coordination, vocal strengthening, and integration of the head and chest registrations are emphasized for proper balance and coordination. Methodology of the Alexander Technique, Carl Stough’s Breathing Coordination, and internal energy awareness are used. An anatomical understanding of the breathing body is taught with a command of diaphragmatic function.

THE GOAL IS A NATURAL UNAFFECTED SOUND FOR EFFORTLESS VOCAL COMMUNICATION. WHEN YOUR VOICE IS HEALTHY, YOU CAN SING IN ANY FORUM.

Ms. Gershenzon received her training at the Indiana University School of Music, where she studied opera and jazz with famed opera singer, Eileen Farrell. She continued 20 years of vocal study in New York City with opera critic, author and Master Teacher Conrad L. Osborne. She also studied jazz improvisation with Bobby McFerrin. She trained in acting with Stella Adler, Austin Pendelton, and HB Studios. Trained in dance with Anton Dolin, The New York Conservatory of Ballet, Luigi, Charles Kelly, and Bob Audy. Ms. Gershenzon was seen on the New York stage in SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, and played leading roles in THE ROTHCHILDS, STREET SCENE, and CARNIVAL. She premiered major operatic and musical theatre roles at the Kennedy Center and in opera houses and theatres around the country. She specialized in playing the ingénue role in musicals such as GIGI, MY FAIR LADY, CAMELOT, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, OKLAHOMA, GUYS AND DOLLS, and THE FANTASTICKS among others.

TECHNICAL EXECUTION AND DRAMATIC INTERPRETATION HAVE EQUAL EMPHASIS WITH EACH SONG AND ARIA.

TESTIMONIALS:
“Sue Anne Gershenzon is a life changing vocal teacher! I'm an actress who loved to sing when I was younger, but developed fears and anxiety around singing as time progressed. Sue Anne's amazing technique and exercises helped me conquer my fears. Her positive approach and warm personality made me feel safe and comfortable. After working with Sue Anne, my voice is finally free and open; no more constriction or tension! She knows exactly what to do (how to breathe, what to release) and what to say to help you to learn to sing the correct way! I highly recommend her without any reservation!”
- Valerie Lonigro (Actress)

“Sue Anne Gershenzon brings the uncommon element of being deeply sensitive and perceptive to her vocal teaching. Not only is she a natural songbird, but she is a gifted healer as well. A lesson with Sue Anne is like an invitation for one’s spirit to be heard. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning to sing.”
- Adam Krieger (healer)

“I met Sue Anne Gershenzon just a few months ago and I am so grateful our paths have crossed! In a very short time Sue Anne has helped me make tremendous vocal strides. I have learned so much about my instrument, the way it works, how I must treat it, and how to approach music. I am learning how to free my voice and let my instrument override the confines of my mind. With Sue Anne’s help, I am rediscovering the joy of song without judgment, fear, and anxiety. Sue Anne is a voice teacher with many gifts. She is funny, warm, creative and highly-skilled. She herself has an incredible voice and is an inspiration to hear. In my opinion, however, her greatest quality is her absolute love for music and its role in the world. This passion informs her teaching, and infuses each lesson with the understanding that sound is one of the foundations upon which life is created, and the sounds we make are a reflection of who we are. With Sue Anne, I am experiencing music as a gift that should be expressed with joy and gratitude, rather than apprehension and hesitation. For me, personally, this is the most precious and important lesson I or anyone who is interested in singing could ever learn. I highly, highly recommend Sue Anne Gershenzon for any and all singers, beginner and professional.”
- Respectfully, Sarah Yellen (Rabbinical Student)
