ONGOING CLASSES at Ripley Grier Studios:
4 WEEK TV AND FILM AUDITION WORKSHOP $199
In this ongoing monthly on-camera workshop, you will learn what casting directors are looking for in the audition room when they are casting co-star roles, guest-star roles, films, and chemistry reads. All actors will be given current tv and film scenes each week (individually tailored to each actors' strengths and weaknesses), and will learn to make adjustments quickly and effectively so they can land the callback. Actors will work with both episodic and sitcom scripts, and will learn the process from pre-read to booking. Actors can take the class as many times as they'd like. Class size is limited to 10 students, and is geared toward each individual's level. Workshop will include both Q&A sessions and 2 scenes on camera each week. *All actors receive a video of their scene each week with individual critiques.
4 WEEK SCENE STUDY WORKSHOP $199
All levels. In this 4 week workshop, actors will develop their acting technique through analyzing and performing scenes from well known plays. Actors will work in pairs, working off each other to create conflict, develop interesting characters, and bring the text to life in a rehearsal setting with blocking, memorization, subtext, etc. Scene analysis will focus on objectives, obstacles, and actions, as well as how the scene fits into the context of the play as a whole. The goal of this class is to give actors basic techniques to deepen their acting skills, as well as help them efficiently and effectively break down a scene for theatre. In the last class, actors will perform the scene off-book with blocking, costumes, and props, after which there will be a critique.
3 WEEK MONOLOGUE WORKSHOP $150
Audition only. All levels. In this 3 week workshop, actors will develop and fine tune their comedic and dramatic monologues for agents and auditions. Actors are given 1-2 minutes to show their talent, so the monologue really has to pop! In each class, actors will learn the skills they need to break down the monologue, memorize it, and bring the text to life with a fully realized, three dimensional character. Actors will learn tips to keep the monologue fresh and spontaneous, and most importantly, how to present it powerfully and effectively. The final class will culminate in a "mock audition," where actors will present their finished monologue to the class, as if they were presenting to an agent.
