Big house, handsome husband, and to adopt children. Helena absolutely loves and adores Charlie, but she has this hidden (and ever nagging) feeling that she might fail as a parent in connecting with her. None the less, she always makes an effort to try and bridge any gaps there are in their relationship, which can be hard given their very different backgrounds. She also has a secret she’s keeping from Charlie, and she’s almost able to separate herself from that secret, in order to protect their bond.

She is also a wife and mother, with a domestic problem: her 15 y.o. son wants to join the Hitler Youth. For her, this is a serious no-no. Ilse is in her mid-to-late 30s-early 40s. Part calls for nudity in the following scene: she has been arrested by the Gestapo and has been strung up with her hands over her head and on tip toe, naked. This was an actual torture used by the Gestapo because it left no marks. They could plausibly deny torturing. Of course later in the '30s they dispensed with niceties and went all out in torture. We will shoot this scene showing her entirely from behind as she is interrogated by a Gestapo officer.
